Monsoon finally arrives in Rajasthan, will likely cover state by July 1

The Jaipur Met office confirmed that on Tuesday at midday, the southwest monsoon finally made its way into Rajasthan through Udaipur, bringing with it mild to moderate rains to Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Banswara and other areas of the state. By July 1, the meteorological department forecast that the monsoon would have spread over the whole state.

It had covered the divisions of Kota and Udaipur by evening.

It also spread to parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and southeast Rajasthan, as well as other regions of the North Arabian Sea.

The city Met office's director, Radhey Shyam Sharma, stated that there are good reasons for the monsoon to spread into other regions of the state within the next three to four days.  In the next day, there will likely be a lot of rain in certain parts of the Kota and Udaipur divisions.

Tuesday saw the maximum amount of rain, 60mm, recorded in Raipur, Pali and Badi Sadari, Chittorgarh. There was also rain in some locations in the districts of Udaipur, Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Kota, Jhalawar, Bundi, Baran and Banswara, with an amount ranging from 10 to 50mm.

But there was still a strong heatwave in Rajasthan's western region. At a high of 45°C, Jaisalmer was the hottest location in the state.
